Welcome Back 2005 - 2006...a word from the Prez!

Welcome back Waverly Wildcats! I cannot believe summer is over and a new school year has just begun. Let me introduce myself. I am Robin Barrett and I am your 2005-2006 PTA President. I am proud to say that I have been a Waverly parent and PTA member for the past 6 years. My oldest son, Kyler, just started at Mt. View. My other two sons, Brandon and Trent, are in the 3rd grade and the RECC Preschool Program at Waverly.

What do the letters PTA stand for? They stand for Parent Teacher Association. Last year, Waverly had 100% of its teachers join the PTA. For only $6 for each adult in your household, you get PTA membership for the year. Your membership fee supports our children, school and programs. Each month, the Paw Print will highlight how your PTA Dollars are working for our children. So, take some time now and fill out the little gold membership envelope and send it into school with your child today!

Here are some other PTA things to look for:

  • Friday Folders—These are provided by the PTA and come home with your child in grades 1-5 each Friday. Look for graded class work and homework, team news, information about after-school and community activities, the Paw Print, and other important school- and PTA-related information.
  • Blue Paper—Almost everything that comes home that is PTA-related will be on blue paper.
  • Paw Print—The PTA newsletter that is published the 1st Friday of each month. It is filled with all kinds of PTA-related information.
  • Kick-Off Picnic—Kick off the new school year with this first Family Enrichment event on Friday, September 9th from 6 to 8 PM, rain or shine. We’ll have plenty of other Family Enrichment events throughout the year.
  • New Family Welcome Tea—A Welcoming Committee event for new families on Thursday, September 15th, from 6 to 8.
  • Fall Fest—Don’t miss Waverly’s annual carnival, jam-packed with games, entertainment, crafts, food and even a haunted house! Saturday, October 8th, 10 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine.
  • Innisbrook—Our BIG PTA fundraiser starts today!! High quality gift wrap for the holidays, birthdays, other occasions, gourmet goodies and unique, inexpensive gifts. Waverly gets to keep 50% of everything we sell and this money goes a long way to support our excellent programs.
  • Adult Events—Come out and play with other Waverly adults! (Sorry, no kids allowed!) We will have 3 events and lots and lots of fun!
  • PTA Executive Board Meetings—2nd Tuesday of the month, 7 PM in the cafeteria, and open to EVERYONE!! Come and see how PTA business gets done.
  • General PTA Meetings—We will have at least 4 of these this school year, on Mondays at 7 PM. At these meetings, we will take care of important business that affects ALL of us…like approval of this year’s operating budget on Monday, September 26th. Mrs. Ferguson will also talk about Waverly’s School Improvement Plan for 2005 - 2006.
  • Parents’ Academy—This will be the third year that the PTA has put on this wonderful and informative program for parents. Look for these sessions to learn ways to be the best parent that you can be. These meetings tend to be on the 4th Monday of the month, and the PTA will provide childcare. Again this year, we will include our cluster schools, and they will include us! Watch the Paw Print and Waverly Wire for more info throughout the year.

I am really excited about this coming year! If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me at (410) 203-1285 or email me at barrettboysand1@verizon.net.

See you soon!
Robin Barrett
PTA President
