On behalf of Waterloo Elementary School, I am proud to showcase
our school, students, staff, and programs. Currently, Waterloo
provides services for pre-schoolers through grade five students.
Learning must be any school's central mission and we at Waterloo
believe students can and will learn. We have created an environment
which provides excellence in teaching and learning so that all
students will participate responsibly in our diverse and changing
world. Students, staff, parents and businesses are all part of
our collaborative learning community.
The school goals of improving students' reading and writing are complemented
with a balanced literacy program. In addition to a structured phonics program,
we offer Accelerated Reader, reading recovery, and one-to-one reading. The
afterschool chess club, drama groups, and computer classes also support
our reading program.Technology
is integrated into our curriculum such that it is a part of our total school
experience. We have two computer labs, and there is a computer in each classroom.
Staff provides opportunities and resources that enhance learning and make it
possible for students to achieve their highest potential through curriculum
that is meaningful and enjoyable.Support staff include a reading specialist,
a speech pathologist, an occupational and physical therapists, a psychologist,
a media specialist,
physical education teachers, art and music teachers, gifted and talented
resource teachers, special education teachers, and alternative educators.
Identified students are given the opportunity to participate in an extended
day and/or extended year program to help accelerate their achievement.
Students are rewarded for their good behavior and excellence in academics through
good citizen awards, positive student phone calls home,
classroom and school-wide incentives. Students also have the opportunity
to participate in many creative and innovative activities. We have trained
peer mediators, a student council, and a student yearbook committee. A school
store is also available and is run by the students. In addition, Waterloo
students have the opportunity to join the school band, chorus, or strings.
In addition to all of the above, our Parent Teacher Association actively supports
our school goals and student program. Parents serve on key school committees
and are active in the decision making process. We encourage you to explore
the different links and to visit Waterloo, home of the Wildcats.
