The Library Media Center
at Talbott Springs is dedicated to helping
our students enjoy literature and find
materials to enhance their learning
in and out of the classroom.
Every class at Talbott Springs, from kindergarten through fifth
grade, visits the media center once
each week. Kindergarteners
visit for 45 minutes each time,
in order to hear a story and check
out books. First through fifth graders
participate in many different activities
during their 45-minute classes. They
may: listen to literature that complements
what they are learning in their various
classes, research topics introduced
in their science and social studies
classes, using books, magazines and
computers, learn how to find information
in the media center and on the internet,
create presentations using computer
programs and other media, engage in
evaluating various types of media.
We hope parents will encourage their children’s love of
reading by enjoying the media books with their children, discussing
the types of books the children are choosing and reminding children
to return their books on time.
We would like to remind parents that Howard County provides
access to three excellent interactive websites that supply information
children can use for information. They are Sirs Discoverer on
the Web, World Book Online, and CultureGrams. Information has
gone home providing the passwords for these websites. If you
have lost this information, please contact the media center.
Parents are always welcome in the media center and should feel
free to contact us if they have any questions about our media
program.
