Welcome to St. John's Lane Elementary School
St. John's Lane Elementary School has over 50 years of educating the children in our community. During the 2006-2007 our staff, the PTA, and students worked together to create a transition plan that would bring together the students of 3 different schools. More than 400 students moved to Veterans Elementary and Centennial Lane Elementary and about 300 students from Waverly and Hollifield Station Elementary Schools joined students continuing at SJLES. We looked at the 2007-2008 school year as the beginning of a new learning community at St. John’s Lane. The momentum of the transition activities continues as old traditions remain and new traditions are formed. Our theme for the year – Old Friends, New Friends, Always Friends, has been the hallmark of a wonderful year.
When you enter the building you will see a banner that states our school's vision, "Excellence Begins With Me." This speaks to all who enter since excellence is the responsibility of students, staff, parents, and community members. The staff at St. John’s Lane is proud of its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
A supportive and active PTA adds to the wonderful learning experiences our students receive. Each Wednesday our students can participate in Walking Wednesdays where they earn prizes as they earn miles. This PTA sponsored activity is just one of many that enhance our learning community. The Parent Assisted Learning at School Program matches a parent volunteer with an individual student to work on reading fluency. There are also many Family Fun Nights and activities such as the Turkey Trot, Bingo Night, Parent/Staff Basketball game and more throughout the year where families and staff come together to have fun.
Many traditions continue from year to year and even generation to generation at SJLES.
Quarterly recognition assemblies are just one way we highlight our students’ accomplishments. The AMAZING BOOK OF ACHIEVEMENTS is the history book of student achievements which was started 9 years ago. Students are invited to sign whenever they achieve an important goal. May Day is a tradition that involves the whole family and has been celebrated from the first year the school was built. On one Saturday each May, students, staff members and parents turn out to participate in games and activities that are fun for the whole family. St. John’s Lane is truly a community school where learning is valued and children achieve to their fullest potential.
