Principals Update

8/27/07

Dear Parents,

Welcome Back!!!  We have had a great opening and are excited about the new school year.

Our first period was extended today, which allowed us to cover important information that the students need to know.  We will not have advisories until the second week of school.  Please check with your students when they get home from school today, they will have a lot of paperwork that will need to be filled out.

Please join our PTSA and Boosters.  They both support the school in so many ways.  We are seeking 100% parent participation in both organizations.  Go Hawks.

  • Teachers will have given school supply information to your students today.

  • Students who have lost their schedules need to report to guidance to get a new one.

  • Please remember that we will not be making class changes unless your child had been assigned incorrectly or needs a certain class for graduation (Seniors).  Please be patient if your child needs a change.  Several of our classes are full and we will wait until Tuesday afternoon to make decisions about movement, once we know who is not showing up.

  • Please follow the parking A.M. pattern.  The pattern can be found on our web site (hcpss.org).  Remember to pull up as far as you can, when no one is ahead of you in the loop.

  • Ninth Grade Dance  - Thursday, August 30th, 2007, from 7:00-10:00 p.m.

(This is a correction to the date previously advertised.)  Tickets are $5.00 and may be purchased during lunch shifts; no tickets sold at the door.

  • Back to School Night  - Thursday, September 6th, 2007
    • 9th Grade – Parents please arrive at 6:15 p.m. and report to the Auditorium. All Other Grades – Parents please arrive at 7:00 p.m. and report to your student’s first period class.
    • Parking is very crowded on this evening so arrive early.

  • Attendance – Please call the school after 7:00 a.m. if your student is out sick (410-313-7120).  You are also required, by HCPSS policy, to send a note explaining why your student was out, when he/she returns to school.  Any student returning to school without a note will be marked truant and not permitted to make up work.

  • Please do not plan trips/vacations during Midterms (January 14th – 17th) or Finals (June 10th – 20th).  Students are not allowed to be absent (unless it is an illness) or take discretionary days during these times and will not be excused.  Unexcused absences will result in students receiving a Z grade and no credit for their courses.  Please plan accordingly.   Thank you.

  • Principal’s Coffee – September 27th from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. in the student dining center.  I hope you can join me for coffee, doughnuts and excellent conversation.   Principal’s Coffees will take place the last Thursday of each month.

  • Parents of AP Students – We will have a brief meeting after Back to School Night in the Auditorium.  Valuable information will be shared.

I hope this information is helpful.  Have a great year and please contact me if you have a question, concern or want to give kudos to one of our staff.

-Mr Ryan
