Principal’s Update
December 3rd, 2007

I would like to congratulate our football team for a making it to their second State Final. I hope you can make it out to the game to cheer them on to victory. They will be playing on Saturday at 3:30 PM on the field at M&T Stadium.

I will be holding my monthly Principal’s Coffee this Thursday, December 6th at 8:00 AM in the Student Dining Center. Please join me for some great conversation. The following information is being provided to help keep you informed.

River Hill vs. Eastern Tech on Saturday, December 8 at 3:30 at M&T Stadium.


River Hill will be the home team and Hawk fans can enter on the South side at Gate D. We will be selling tickets in advance during all lunch shifts on Friday. Tickets for the State Championship are $8 for persons 7 years of age and older. The ticket windows at M&T Stadium are on the West end (Russell Street side).

There will be a pep rally during all lunch periods on Friday. In addition to selling advance tickets we will issue coupons for River Hill night at Champps americana.

River Hill celebrates a record setting season. This fall River Hill Athletics has won 6 Region titles and Saturday will be trying to win our 5th State Championship for the fall season (State Records).

River Hill will be celebrating the Fall Athletic Season on Monday, December 10 from 5 to 9 PM at CHAMPPS americana in the Columbia Mall. Wear your BLUE and GOLD spirit wear, show your school pride and spirit. Please present your coupon before ordering and 15% of the proceeds go to the school. Coupons will be issued on Friday along will tickets for the championship game.

PARENT CONNECTIONS-NAMI Parent Group
Parenting a child with challenging behaviors is tough. Parenting a child whose symptoms are emotion al and behavioral can be a ni ghtmare. You are not alone! Come join other parents, caregivers, and family members experiencing similar issues. Other parents going through similar challenges can be a great resource. Come meet others who know first hand the difficulties your family faces. Share your struggles and successes. We offer encouragement and understanding in a supportive environment. Facilitators are NAMI parent volunteers.

Carson Scholars Scholarship
The Carson Scholars Fund aims to recognize and reward students in grade 4-11 who earn the highest level of academic achievement, and also display strong humanitarian qualities. Winners are designated as “Carson Scholars” and receive $1,000 scholarship awards that are invested for college.

To be considered for nomination students must:
• Be enrolled in grades 4-11
• Previous winners in the 12th grade may participate
• Have a GPA of 3.75 or above on a 4.0 scale in the following academic subjects: English, Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages. Please note: Applicant may only submit fall 2007, 1st Quarter grades and/or 2nd Quarter if available. No previous year is accepted.
• Demonstrate humanitarian qualities in school and community through school programs and/or community service above and beyond what is required. Community Service is unpaid, volunteer work that benefits individuals, groups, or non-profit organizations and the volunteer work must demonstrate unique accomplishments such as: collecting money for Hurricane Katrina victims.

If interested in being nominated please provide a resume and a personal statement explaining your humanitarian qualities (as mentioned above) to Mrs. Pizzo in guidance by December 7th.

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Renewed

The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program
$18,000 Reward (Scholarship) for the winning oratorical based on some phase of the United States Constitution. This is open to all students 9th through 12th grade. This is sponsored by Post 300.

The program awards diverse high school juniors on their exemplary achievements including Leadership, Community Service and Obstacle(s). BOOSTERS' NEWS


Due to the busy holiday season upon us all, we are combining the December and January Booster General Meetings on January 16th in the Media Center at 7:00 p.m. There will be NO meeting in December.

We would like to welcome our new Winter athletic team booster reps and say thanks to all of the faithful Fall team reps for their continued support for the rest of the year! Don’t forget that in addition to the individual team awards nights held this fall, there will be a gala all school awards night for fall/winter/spring sports in the spring of 2008.
