Dear Parents,
I hope you had a great weekend and a Happy Halloween. I apologize for not getting out the update yesterday—I had to bolt after school to go see my son’s Halloween parade and go Trick or Treating. He made a great Superman in case you’re wondering (and if you don’t care about what my son’s costume was, you can just skip the intro and get to the announcements).
The following news is provided to help keep you informed:
November Parent Teacher Conferences
Conference dates will be: Mon., Nov. 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm; Tues., Nov. 22 from 11:45 to 2:45 and from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and Wed., Nov. 23 from 7:15 to 2:45.
Not all teachers will be available at all times.
Conferences will be scheduled through pickAtime. Please visit www.hcpss.org to access the link to pickAtime. You will find written directions in English, Korean and Spanish, along with video instructions.
The pickAtime website will be available from Wed., Nov. 9 at noon until Fri., Nov. 18 at midnight.
Parents will need to create a new account to schedule conferences. If you have children that attend other HCPSS schools, you can use the same account for all schools but will need to go to each school's link to actually schedule your appointments for that school.
Horizon Foundation Coat Drive
Local families are in need of gently used coats for the winter season. If you have coats of any size to donate- please have your students drop them off this week at RHHS' front office and we will see that they get donated to the needy of our community. Sincere thanks!
New Black Student Achievement Program Assistant
As many of you know, Ms. Harriet Lee left us at the end of last year for Reservoir HS. It has been a long time coming, but I’m pleased to announce that Dr. Lethia Jackson will be our new BSAP Assistant. Dr. Jackson currently teaches a first period Computer Science class for us and will be adding on the responsibilities of BSAP assistant. Since the position is split with Marriotts Ridge HS, Dr. Jackson will be at RHHS on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and MRHS on Mondays and Thursdays. Business Expo- College and Career Exploration Night- 11/3/11
In an effort to assist our students in becoming more college and career ready, River Hill High School will be hosting a Business Expo on Wednesday November 2, 2011from 7-9 PM in the Information Center and Student Dining Center. We will have professionals from many aspects of the business world including the banking, accounting, financial planning, and real estate industries as well as professionals who have their own businesses or franchises. There will also be numerous colleges that have business programs at their schools in attendance. Some of the schools who have agreed to attend include University of Maryland, Howard Community College, Mt. St. Mary's, University of Baltimore, Stevenson University, and Salisbury University. This will be an excellent opportunity to network with colleges and business professionals. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the Business Expo on November 2nd. We hope to see you there!!!
RHHS Theatre Arts Department Announces Auditions For…
Footloose- The Musical
Auditions for the spring musical, Footloose, will take place in the River Hill auditorium on November 29, 30 and December 1 right after school. Auditions are open to all RHHS students who are academically eligible for extra-curricular activities.
Interested students should sign up on the bulletin board in the Drama Hallway (outside of Room 205)
Interested students should get a detailed information packet and audition form as soon as possible.
Audition information packets and audition forms can be obtained by;
1. Sending an email request to Mrs. Land (pland@hcpss.org)
2. Stopping by the Drama room (205) before or after school to get a hard copy of the packet.

Winter Sports Info!!!
There will be a meeting in the gym on Wednesday, November 2nd during HAWKTIME for all students interested in playing a winter sport. Announcements are being made in school, but we ask that you please remind your child.
On Tuesday, November 8th from 5-6:30 PM, there will be a Form Hand-In night for Winter Sports in the Media Center. Forms can be downloaded from www.riverhill.org or obtained from the front office.
