Principal’s Update
October 29th, 2007

Happy Monday!! Our first quarter will end this week. Your students have done an incredible job and they could not have done so without your support. Parent conferences will be held Nov. 19-21 and can be set up Nov. 6-15 (See details below.) The following information is being provided to help keep you informed.

· AM Drop Off ---- PLEASE ONLY DROP OFF YOUR STUDENTS IN THE CIRCLE. WE ALSO ASK THAT YOU PULL UP AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE WHEN DROPPING OFF. TRAFFIC HAS BEEN BACKING UP AND THE TRAFFIC FLOW WILL GO MORE SMOOTHLY IF EVERYONE WORKS TOGETHER. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Parents may log on to Pick-A-Time starting Tuesday, Nov. 6th at 12:00 noon, link at www.hcpss.org/rhhs . The system will be turned off Thursday, Nov. 15th at 12:00 noon.
Parents will need their student's ID number in order to reserve conference times. Student ID numbers can be found on the interim report, schedules and also on report cards. ID numbers cannot be given out over the phone.

Financial Aid Night
On Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 7pm in the Information Center the guidance office will be hosting a Financial Aid Information session. Dr. Herm Davis will be presenting information on the FAFSA Form and how colleges determine eligibility for Financial Aid.

Organizational Workshops for Students
S.O.A.R., our peer tutoring program, and the Guidance Office are pleased to offer Organization Workshops on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month from 2:15 - 3:15 in Room 135. Students should sign up in advance in the S.O.A.R. binder in the Guidance Office. Peer tutors will provide one-on-one assistance with getting backpacks and notebooks organized. Materials will be provided to assist students with their organizational skills and strategies to stay on top of their paperwork.

Evening Appointments with Counselors
The Guidance Counselors will be available on Wednesday, November 7, 5pm-7pm for appointments with parents. Each counselor will have three 30 minute meetings available, 5pm, 5:45pm, and 6:30pm. If you are interested in meeting with your child’s counselor please call Ms. Greenfield in the Guidance Office at 410-313-7400. Mr. Castro will not be available that evening.

Countywide NCAA Presentation
The Counselors of Howard County School are please to present an NCAA Presentation. A panel of coaches and administrators from area colleges will discuss the NCAA Clearinghouse, the recruiting process, and what it is like to be a college athlete. The presentation will take place on Monday, November 12 at 7pm at Marriotts Ridge High School. Speakers include:
