Dear Parents, The following news is provided to help keep you informed:
Spring Sports Wrap-Up: Part 2
Here’s the rest of the accolades I received for our Spring athletes:
VARSITY BOY’S LACROSSE
This season the varsity lacrosse team's record was 10 and 7. The team was led by several seniors did an exceptional job on and off the field. Max Williams led the team in goals with 43 and made second team All County, he scored 7 goals against Long Reach which tied him for the second most goals in a game all time. Ryan Healy finished the season with a 61% save percentage and also made second team All County for a second straight year. Cory Schwab led the team with in groundballs and was selected first team All County for the second straight year. Matt Kaiser, Chris Leon, and Kirby Smith also had great senior seasons. Matt was selected second team All County as well. The team had great wins over Atholton, Reservoir, and Mt. Hebron and lost to State Champ Glenelg by one.
TENNIS
The boys team finished with a record of 13-4; the girls were 16-1. Rena Shi and Audrey Cheng won county and regional tournaments and came in second at states. Yusuke Asai and Oliver Zhao came in second at counties and regionals and lost first round at states. Kiera Hanrahan came in second in counties and third in regionals. As a team we won the county trophy and the regional trophy as well!
VARSITY BASEBALL
Varsity baseball finished the season 13-8 and advanced to the second round of the play-offs before losing to county champion Resevior. Senior captains Brandon Estrain (UNC-Pembrooke), Danny Caddigan (Mary Washington), and Zach Scott lead the team statistically and emotionally through a challenging schedule. Seniors Nathan Norwood and Kevin McKee also assumed leadership roles in anchoring the outfield. The senior captains finish an excellent run as three year varsity members, compiling a record of 43-22. Next years team returns 9 players including rising seniors Davis Grove, Nick Riso, Mas St. George, Michael Silber, and rising junior Evan Griffin.
JV BASEBALL
River Hill JV Baseball finished with an overall record of 11-6. Sophomore Shortstop/Pitcher Justin Arn batted .417 with 10 runs, 10 RBI and 10 sb. Arn led the team in OB% at .491. Arn was a standout pitcher in the county with an ERA of 0.70 in 30 innings of work. Arn struck out 37 batters while only walking 7. Opponents batted .144 against Arn.
Sophomore Left fielder and lead off batter Jonathon Calvin batted .404 and led the team in RBI with 21. Calvin was the most consistent and clutch hitter all season for the Hawks. Calvin also added 15 runs and 8 stolen bases. Sophomore Third Basemen Nathan Check batted .385 and led the team with 17 runs. Check also added 8RBI and 10 stolen bases. Check made some outstanding defensive plays in clutch situations to help the Hawks.
Sophomore Pitcher Hank Winde threw 31 innings and produced an ERA of 2.71. Winde struck out 47 batters and held opponents to a .171 batting average. Winde pitched a complete game shutout vs Glenelg with 13 strikeouts the last game of the season. The Hawks were 8-2 in the final 10 games of the season to finish strong. Other notable efforts include excellent relief pitching from Sophomore Dillon Robson who had an ERA of 2.75. Freshman Billy Small batted .311 with 9RBI and 5 doubles to help the offense.
Kudos
Congratulations to Kat Varga, sophomore at River Hill, who has been selected to compete at the USFHA National Futures Championship. Selection is highly competitive and based on the athletes having the qualities needed to be selected to play on the USA National Field Hockey team at the Olympics. Best of luck to Kat and her team!
Congratulations to Anna Demaree and Caitlin Davis for being named to the Baltimore Sun's All Metropolitan Track and Field Second team. Great job ladies. Good luck to Anna next year at Yale; luckily, we get to see another year of Caitlin’s accomplishments with River Hill.

FALL PLAY AUDITIONS
The RHHS Theatre Arts Department announces auditions for the Fall Play, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. The play will be earlier than usual next fall, so auditions will take place before we leave school in June. Auditions are open to all River Hill students and will take place on June 13 in the Drama room beginning at 2:30. This includes current 8th graders who will be River Hill freshmen in the fall. Callbacks will be on June 15. If you plan to audition, sign up on the wall outside of the Theatre Arts room, 205. Current 8thgraders planning to audition should email Mrs. Land so that she can send complete information. HoCo Junior Summer Theatre
Mark Your Calendar!
Save the date! Please come see the Howard County Junior Summer Theatre’s production of Fiddler on the Roof at Long Reach High School in Columbia, Maryland. A few of the kids performing from this area are: Kyle McKee, David Fisher, Cailean Hawke, Sarah Driver, Shelby Scott, Hannah Floyd, Kim Moseman, and Payton Walker.
Show dates are June 30 at 2:00 pm and July 1 at 7:00 pm.
Tickets are $7. You can purchase them in advance from a cast member or at the door. Proceeds benefit Prepare for Success and Grassroots Crisis Prevention Center in Howard County.
