Girls were 4th and Boys were 7th at States.

·         GUIDANCE UPDATE


Attention Juniors:  Maryland Distinguished Scholar Program Talent in the Arts
The Distinguished Scholar Program honors high school juniors
throughout the state of Maryland for academic achievement, talent in
the arts and or achieving finalist status in the National
Merit/National Achievement Scholarship Program.  Students may qualify
for the award in one or more categories however you can be offered
only one Distinguished Scholar award.  The purpose of the scholarship
is to encourage Maryland students to attend colleges or universities
in Maryland.  The scholarship amount is $3,000 per year for 4 years
with a total award for 12,000.  Students must be Maryland residents
and United States Citizens, permanent residents, or maintain an
eligible immigration status.  The Talent in the Arts category does not
contain a grade point average requirement.

There are five categories in which students may be nominated for
talent competition:  visual arts, instrumental music performance,
vocal music performance, dance and drama.  The talent competition is
only open to high school juniors who have been nominated by their high
schools.  Each high school is allowed five nominees.

Applications are available in guidance and completed applications must
be turned in to Mr. Overton in Guidance by Thursday March 6, 2008.
Auditions for Talent in the Arts will take place Tuesday March 11,
2008.

Attention Students and Parents: Please email Mr. Vangeli at
pvangeli@hcpss.org if your son her daughter in grades 9 through 11 is
planning to apply to a < st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Military Academy
during their senior year. The Guidance Office is trying to identify
these students so that we can share information with them that will be
helpful as they move forward.

Attention Juniors: Any Junior who is planning to be a Teacher's aide
for the 2008-09 School Year should stop by guidance to pick up an
Aiding application. Students should see their counselor if they have
questions.

Spring College Night:  The Guidance Office will be presenting a
College Information Night program on Monday, March 10 at 7pm in the
Auditorium. Topics covered include: The Transcript Request process,
the Application process, What college are looking for, NCAA
Clearinghouse, SATs, Campus Visits, Interview Tips. Program open to
parents and students.
