Earthwatch Institute: --Earthwatch supports critical research programs in more than 30 countries. Earthwatch enables people to join any of the research teams as a volunteer. Teen teams confront the problems of climate change, habitat loss, wildlife management, ocean health, and more. Teens capture critical data on species, cultures, and ecosystems. They learn from leading scientists and mentors. They develop skills through hands-on research. They gain life changing experience for college applications and resume and become better informed citizens of the world through cultural immersion. International Student Exchange Program:--To qualify for ASSE exchange year, you must be no younger than 15 nor older than 18 and half years of age. You can either do year long program, International Teen Twin Program or summer programs. You will get a firsthand experience with another country’s culture and way of life, and you will be able to improve your foreign language skills dramatically. Carnegie Mellon’s Pre-College Programs:--Offers students entering their junior or senior year of high school the opportunity to study in an intense setting for six weeks in the summer. The Advanced Placement/Early Action program allows you to choose two courses in a variety of subjects that can earn you college credit. Alfred University: Located in the Finger Lakes section of New YorkState, AU summer programs include Art Portfolio Prep, Astronomy, Creative Writing, Theater, Equestrian, Swimming, Lacrosse, Football, and Tennis. American Legion Boys State Program: Program, which is open to males who have completed Junior year, emphasizes the necessity of future active participation as a citizen in the government process to insure continuing freedoms and rights. American University School of Communication: Open to students in grades 9-12, the program is designed for students with an interest in film, journalism, multimedia and communication. 30 non-credit courses run one to four weeks. National Science Youth Camp: Outstanding opportunity for graduating High School students. Applications to attend the 2009 National Youth Science Camp are now available online at www.nysc.org/2009. Two graduating high school students will be selected to represent Maryland at the all-expense paid honors program which will be held from July 1 through July 25, 2009.
