Opportunities

Leadership U

Leadership Opportunity for current 10th grade students

Leadership U is a youth leaders hip program that brings together students from throughout the county who demonstrate leadership potential. Students work in teams to discuss, reflect upon and develop solutions for problems that affect them and their peers in the community. They also develop mentoring relationships with adult community leaders, learn about Howard County's government, businesses and services and hone their presentation skills.

Howard County's Leadership U is one of only two county-wide youth leadership programs in Maryland.

The students begin this four month journey with a week together in the summer at an outdoor learning center discovering their leadership traits.  At the end of the week, students divide into project teams.  Under the guidance of an adult, each team spends the fall term designing and implementing their own service project based on a need they see in our community.

Guidance Advisory Committee..Seeking Parent Volunteers

The Guidance Advisory Committee is an actively forming committee comprised of students, staff members and parents of the community that will collaborate with members of the Student Services department to support and provide assistance to initiatives and programs.  We are seeking volunteers to participate in quarterly meetings that take place during the school day to strategize and build upon student oriented programs.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with Student Services staff and students through implementing initiatives.  Our first meeting will be held on March 27th 9 a.m.-11.  If interested in partaking in this opportunity, please contact the Student Services Office.

Update

Student Services proudly announces that we met with over 1,000 students to review schedules and 4-year plans.  We continue to work on the academic planning and review of our students throughout the duration of the year.  This process was extremely exciting and the Student Services team enjoyed helping students with their future planning for high school and beyond.  We have a very talented study body!  Course Placement Review Forms (CPR's) are due to Student Services by March 30th if you are requesting a level change in a course.  Once Student Services receives the request, it is forwarded to the Instructional Team Leader for review.

Thank you for your continued support!
