RHS INDEPENDENT READING ASSIGNMENT GUIDE

A note to parents

DIRECTIONS: Preview the following survey before reading. As you read, highlight or note the elements indicated below. When you have finished reading, complete the following analysis on a separate sheet of paper. In order to earn full credit, be sure that you answer each part completely.

1. PLOT: The sequence of related events that make up a story
   LIST 10 main events and indicate their page numbers. Put an asterisk next to the two most important or significant scenes.
2. CHARACTER: An individual in a story
   LIST 3-5 of the main characters and briefly describe each one, giving examples of both physical appearance and personality traits/ behavior. For each example, indicate the page number where you found this information.
3. VOCABULARY: LIST and DEFINE 5 new vocabulary words and the page number on which the word occurs in the book.
4. PERSONAL RESPONSE: In a well-developed paragraph of at least 5 sentences, explain how any part of this book relates to your life.

We want you to read well so that you can achieve as highly as possible on your work in our classes. It defeats the purpose of the assignment for you to copy any of this work rather than doing the work yourself. WE EXPECT ALL STUDENTS TO DO THIS ASSIGNMENT ON THEIR OWN, NOT WITH OTHER STUDENTS.
