Reservoir High eSchoolnewsletter

Parents/Guardians:

Tomorrow morning, I am leaving for Virginia Beach with the music students.  I am excited about chaperoning this trip, and I am looking forward to the wonderful student performances.  Please join me in wishing all of our music students well as they compete with schools around the country.  I know they will represent Reservoir well and make us all proud!  Because I will not be here on Friday, I am sending my weekly message today. On Tuesday, we held a terrific advisory.  We presented a video, which high school stude nts created, and facilitated discussion on bullying, harassment and discrimination.  As I walked around the building, I saw students and staff members engaged in healthy conversation about the things that are happening at RHS.  Because the discussion was so good, many advisors requested that we continue the discussion next week.  As a result, we are moving our traditional club advisory to the following week in May.  Please ask your children to tell you about the presentation and statistics that were viewed and discussed in advisory on Tuesday.  It can lead to some great conversation.

Art department news…

This past weekend twenty students from Reservoir visited the fine arts capital of the Western Hemisphere--New York City.  Their trip included a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, lunch in Central Park, and a walking tour of professional artists' studios and galleries in the SoHo district.  Each student earned the privilege to attend this trip by completing at least 40 service learning hours towards induction into the National Art Honor Society!  A good time was had by all!  Thanks to Mr. English, Mr. Lalonde and Mr. Yannuzzi for doing such a great job with our art program.

Senior Interim Progress Reports:

Senior Interim Progress Reports will be distributed to students in a special senior advisory on Tuesday, April 29th.  Counselors will distribute the interims and have the chance to talk with students who are still in jeopardy of failing a required class.  Seniors will also use that time to complete their Senior Information Sheet.  Seniors will be asked to list all of the colleges to which they have been accepted, the college that they selected and the total amount of all the scholarships they have been offered.  If you think it will help, please have your senior write the information down before Tuesday and ask the student to bring it to school that day.  That will save some time and questions.  Finally, students will each be given a cut-out graduation cap.  On the cap, the students will write their future plans (college, military school, job, etc.).  The caps will be on display in or right outside of the Student Services Office.  We will cover a lot on Tuesday, and it will be a great advisory.

Senior Parent Meeting:

If you missed last night's senior parent meeting, you may go to the RHS website to view the senior calendar.  I want to remind parents that the last day of classes will be 5/19; however, ALL students must be in school through Friday, 5/23.  Students MUST be in school from 7:25 – 2:10 each day that week.  We have many activities and rehearsals which all students MUST attend.  If your child normally has work release, GT intern or other responsibilities, he/she must make arrangements to be at school that entire week from 7:25 – 2:10.  If you have any questions, you can contact Lynnette Moore (graduation coordinator) at Lynnette_Moore@hcpss.org.

Tuxedo Information for Prom

The people from Columbia Bridal and Tuxedo will be at RHS during each lunch period this Monday, April 28th.  As promised, I checked with them to see if parents need to send students with a check for a deposit, and they said yes.  Please make the check payable to Columbia Bridal and Tuxedo and write it for $50.00, which will suffice as the deposit.  The total cost will depend on the kind of tuxedo each boy orders.  Measurements will be taken her e at the school and there will be a discount.
