Rehearsal Room Rules

The following rules follow the HCPSS code of conduct and are posted throughout the music department. They are posted as a reminder to students of the expectations for them so that all students can learn and grow musically in the most pleasant environment. Students who are unable or unwilling to follow these simple rules will: (1) be spoken to by the director, (2) have a parent or guardian called to discuss their behavior, (3) given detention or other appropriate consequence to help remediate their behavior and, if no other recourse is available, (4) be removed from the program. Our time is too limited to enable a few students to jeopardize the potential of the majority.

In the rehearsal room the students will:

  1. Respect all students, staff, and property. Follow all directions respectfully the first time given.
  2. Sit with good posture, that is, both feet flat on the floor, legs uncrossed, and back away from the back of the chair.
  3. Practice the assigned music every day. If there is not a specific assignment, practice the concert music.
  4. Be ready to play or sing as soon as the director gives the indication.
  5. Do your best at all times. Mistakes are acceptable. Laziness and disregard are not.
  6. Be in the classroom, in your seat, with your instrument, pencil, and all of your music at or before the beginning of class.
  7. Silently practice sight-singing, fingerings, or slide positions until the class is ready to begin. We will warm up as a group.
