Positive Behavior Intervention and Support

What is PBIS?
The SIR (Staff Incident Report)

PBIS at OMHS:

This week we are focusing on RESPECT:

Students: Be Respectful: When in OMHS be professional and respectful and use appropriate language and tone with all members of the OMHS community.

What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. There are three main components to PBIS. These include teaching appropriate behaviors in all settings. Providing interventions when behavioral expectations are not met and recognizing students when behavioral expectations are met.

PBIS is a team based, school-wide design for discipline which includes all students and all staff in all settings. It is a program that can be upgraded as we go along to better meet the needs of our students’ population by using results of surveys completed by students, parents/families, and staff and by analyzing discipline data.

The SIR (Staff Incident Report)

Staff Incident Reports (SIR) are given by staff to students who are not following the Scorpion Code of Conduct. SIR's are given to students as part of the staff's normal behavioral management process and to assist the process by providing a written record of a staff's interventions with a student. Staff can write an SIR for any student, whether they teach them or not. SIR's are used to document Staff managed behaviors.

Data from the SIR is entered into the SWIS database, an online tool that organizes information for the purposes of tracking a particular student behavior, grade-level or school-wide behaviors, or other information that can assist in maintaining an orderly school environment. Tracked SIR data can assist the administration as they assign consequences for teacher referrals.

An SIR is intended to assist the staff in disciplining a student as the behavior happens. The SIR is an opportunity to discuss the situation with the student (relationship building). The SIR is not a referral, it is a relationship building problem solving tool.
