After Prom Volunteers Needed

The OMHS PTSA is looking for parents willing to come out and help keep our teens safe and happy on Prom Night. We are hosting our 11th Annual After Prom Event on Saturday, May 19th immediately following the Prom.  This year the event will be held at Brunswick Lanes in Columbia, MD with set-up starting at 10:30pm. Volunteers are needed throughout the night and for clean-up, which begins at 4:30am.  Volunteers do not have to stay the entire night, even a couple of hours here and there will go far to helping out the weary all-nighters!

Please contact Mona Curran at omhsafterprom@yahoo.com to offer your assistance.

2012-2013: "The magic of a moment..."

Oakland Mills High School PTSA Proudly Presents
2011-2012 Reflections
"Diversity Means ...

All documents about the program, including guidelines and entry forms, can be viewed/downloaded from the links below:

What is Reflections?
Reflections is a cultural arts program sponsored by the National PTA, which encourages all students to express their thoughts and feelings in their own original works. The program follows a contest format; however, participation, not winning, is the emphasis.

What is this Year's Theme?
This year's theme is "Diversity Means...", which may be interpreted in any way students feel appropriate, as long as guidelines for the program are followed.

What Can Be Submitted?
Any original work of art that is inspired by the theme in the following categories can be submitted:

  1. Visual arts - Drawing, painting, collage, print-making, fiber work, metal etching.
  2. Music - A cappella or instrumental compositions, with or without words.
  3. Literature - Fiction or nonfiction in prose, poetry, drama, song lyrics, short story.
  4. Photography - Print or collage up to 8 x 10 inches, in color or black and white.
  5. Choreography/dance -Videotape your originally choreographed dance.
  6. Film/Video – Fiction/nonfiction video of original work with/without sound; may use computer.

Who Can Participate?
Any student at Oakland Mills High School may participate. Student's work will be judged within the categories listed above by the following age group:

Senior Category: Grades 9 through 12

How Many Entries?
A student may submit as many entries as he/she wishes. Only four entries per age group per artistic category will be forwarded to the Howard County PTA level.

How is the Artwork Judged?
Judges are volunteers from the community with expertise and background in the arts. All entries will be judged on creativity, interpretation of the theme, and artistic merit.

Deadlines?
All entries must be turned in by the end of the school day Monday, December 12, 2011. Completed/signed entry form must be attached to each entry. Entries should be brought to Student Services Center and placed in "Reflections" box.

More Information?
Packets available in Student Services Center - includes official entry forms/detailed guidelines for each artistic category. Additional entry forms available. For more details, contact Holly Tillson, OMHS PTSA Reflections Chair, Holly_Tillson@verizon.net, 443-283-1822.
