After Prom Volunteers Needed

The OMHS PTSA is looking for parents willing to come out and help keep our teens safe and happy on Prom Night. We are hosting our 11th Annual After Prom Event on Saturday, May 19th immediately following the Prom.  This year the event will be held at Brunswick Lanes in Columbia, MD with set-up starting at 10:30pm. Volunteers are needed throughout the night and for clean-up, which begins at 4:30am.  Volunteers do not have to stay the entire night, even a couple of hours here and there will go far to helping out the weary all-nighters!

Please contact Mona Curran at omhsafterprom@yahoo.com to offer your assistance.

After School Practices & Rehearsals

Parents - It is important that all students are picked up no later than 30 minutes from the end of practice.

Lateness to School

As the winter weather approaches, please be advised that traffic is much worse when it is raining, snowing, or sleeting. Please allow extra time for getting to school. Traffic is NOT an excused reason for lateness.

Useful Information

Want to Know the Nutritional Value of a School Lunch?
The HCPSS's Food and Nutrition Service recently added a new link to their webpage that parents and students are sure to enjoy. At www.schoolmenu.com, families can view the daily lunch menu for their specific school, along with the menus for the next week as soon as they are posted. In addition, the nutritional value of each menu item is available in a drop down box. Parents and students can use the information to plan their choices for the day and calculate their nutritional intake at the same time.

According to Food and Nutrition Services Director Mary Klatko, www.schoolmenu.com is a fun, colorful site that includes features like nutrition and fitness messages, exercise tips, allergen information, a kids' area with food-related activities, coupons for parents to print and use, frequently asked questions, as well as meal prices, pre-paid meal plans and the local weather.

"It is a very informative site," says Klatko. "We hope the school communities in Howard County will find it useful and interesting."

The site can be accessed at www.schoolmenu.com or by visiting the HCPSS website at www.hcpss.org, clicking on "Lunch Menus" in the quick links area, where a link to the schoolmenu site is highlighted.

Maryland Pathways

The University of Maryland has maintained a long tradition of providing high quality undergraduate education to academically talented students from the State of Maryland . However, access, affordability, and choice have become critical issues as recent economic conditions have made it harder for families of modest means to afford the rising costs of education. Increasingly, families with limited resources have had to assume debt to defray these costs.

To assist low-income families in these circumstances, the University of Maryland has created a financial assistance program: Maryland Pathways. This three-tiered program reduces the debt component and increases the grant component of the student's financial aid package.
