Black History Month Trivia Contest

What time is it? Trivia Time. The class with the most correct answers wins breakfast the first week of March. Please send a student to Room 203 with the answer (and the teacher's name) or email Mrs. Yarboi before 8:30am.

     She was an educator and activist. Believing that education provided the key to racial advancement, she founded the Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute. She served in the Roosevelt administration as adviser to the president on minority affairs. Who was she?

     He is best known for his acting and singing career but has also supported social and political causes. His career took off with the film Carmen Jones and had several hits including The Banana Boat Song. Who is he? (Highlight to see answer: Harry Belafonte)

Question for February 7, 2012:

     He was the first African-American to receive a patent and it was for a dry-cleaning process. He used the money earned from the patent to purchase relatives out of slavery and support abolitionist causes. Who was he? (Highlight to see answer: Thomas L. Jennings)

Question for February 6, 2012:

     He was a botanist, an agricultural chemist, and revitalized the agricultural industry in the South between 1900 and 1930. As a professor at the Tuskegee Institute, he encouraged farmers to grow new crops to replenish the soil, including peanuts from which he developed more than 300 products.
