Kindergarten Information

Welcome to Manor Woods! Your partnership begins now as your youngest learner adventures into the world of kindergarten.  It is our mission to provide a nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment for your child’s first formal school experience.  We embrace a strong academic focus for instruction while maintaining a balance for age appropriate social and emotional learning behaviors to grow.

Our kindergarten program is based primarily on the learning outcomes established by the Howard County Public School System.  An integrated approach to instruction is key in assisting our young learners as they make real-life connections to concepts taught.

Mathematics
This program supports a hands-on, problem solving approach that connects math concepts to real-life learning situations.  This program allows for differentiation of instruction to meet the instructional needs of diverse learners.

Language Arts
Instruction emphasizes beginning phonemic awareness skills that foster a strong beginning reading foundation.  Students participate in developmentally appropriate reading groups during the Language Arts block.  Ongoing skill assessments are completed quarterly to determine continuous learning progress, and to maintain appropriate instructional groups.  Writing instruction is integrated within this block throughout the week.
