- Background Notes - This site has brief information about countries around the world. The information comes from the U.S. State Department.
- Country Studies - "This website contains the on-line versions of books previously published in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army." The currency of information varies since books are up updated on a rotating basis.
- CIA World Fact Book - This site has information about countries of the world from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. As of 6/15/01 this statement is on the home page: "In general, information available as of 1 January 2000

- U.S. Gazetteer - This site allows users to search for United States maps by zip code or city and state. It is published by the U.S. Census Bureau.

e-Texts
- Hyptertexts from the University of Virginia - This site has full text, illustrations, reviews, literary attributes, etc. from many classics. Some examples are Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville, works by Mark Twain, and American Slave Narratives by the WPA.
- Columbia University's Project Bartleby - Columbia University's Project Bartleby is an online full-text library of reference, verse, fiction and nonfiction. Searchable by author, title and broad categories such as American Documents and English Essays. An early edition of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations is included in the collection as well as many other early works such as the 70 volumes of the Harvard Classics and the 1919 edition of Gray's Anatomy.. Word searching yields rapid retrieval of all works containing the word, with direct links to the original sources.
- Project Gutenberg - Fine Literature Digitally Re-Published - This site provides full-text of literature and references that are in the public domain, including classics such as Alice in Wonderland and the complete works of Shakespeare.

Public Library Online Literary Criticism Collection - "The

by author, by title, or by nationality and literary period." - Encyclopedia Mythica- Provides key word access to articles pertaining to myths and mythological characters.
- Literary Resources on the Net - A list of websites of literary interest. The sites are grouped by period, for example: Classical, 18th century, Romantic, Victorian.
- Virtual YA Index - Index from the Suffolk Cooperative Library System that lists links to Public Library websites that have dedicated websites for Teens.
- Voice of the Shuttle--English Literature- English literature is defined on this page as "works written in English taught in departments of English and American literature." Searchable by author and also organized by time period.
- Voice of the Shuttle--Minority Literature- Minority literature categorized into groups such as "AFRO-AMERICAN, ASIAN-AMERICAN, CHICANO/LATINO." Includes some full-text of authors' works. Not all links on individual pages have been checked for currency as of 6/21/00.

- New York Times - Find daily news from the New York Times. This site also provides links to past articles, providing background information about a current story.
- Newsweek - Online version of the popular weekly magazine
- Public Agenda Online - "Public Agenda is a nonpartisan, nonprofit public opinion research and citizen education organization based in New York City. Drawing on its research, Public Agenda prepares a broad array of educational materials that help explain policy issues to the public in a balanced and easy-to-understand way. - Reuters - Top news stories from Reuters may be found at this site. The latest headlines, new stories, photographs and audio newsclips are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Time Warner's Pathfinder Network - Archives of all issues since 1994 are available in addition to the current issue. In the archives the cover of each issue, in thumbnail size, is shown in a browser window that is organized by date of publication.
- U.S. News and World Report - Archives of all issues since February 1997 are available, in addition to the current issue. Archives are organized by date of publication.
- Washington Post- In addition to the current issue the full text of issues printed during the previous two weeks are searchable and available free of charge.

- Library of Congress - This site has links to legislative information and research tools including full text access to current bills in congress. It is useful for verifying publication of materials and for locating bibliographic information.
- National Archives and Records Administration - This site provides access to primary sources related to U.S. government and history.
- National Library of Medicine - Users may search MedLine or the National Library of Medicine site.
- Smithsonian - Links to the museums, educational activities, libraries, etc. of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
- U.S. Census Bureau - The Census Bureau has information from the U.S. Census of 1990. Data from the 2000 census is added as it becomes available.
- U.S. Executive Branch - This site has useful information about the Executive branch of the U.S. government.
- U.S. Judicial Branch - This site has useful information about the Judicial branch of the U.S. government.
- U.S. Legislative Branch - This site has useful information about the Legislative branch of the U.S. government such as a directory of members of Congress and congresssional committees.
