Below is information on the agenda, the different options for registering, and the sessions offered. Space is limited in the Leadership, Mobi Master, and Digital Citizenship strands. Once you have selected your registration option, register for that strand.
If you are registering for the Concurrent Sessions/Workshops strand, be sure to look over your options below. The credit options require attendance from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The afternoon will be devoted to developing your new skills with a project.
Note: If you sign up for the Digital Citizenship Strand (Option 6), you may also sign up for Option 1 to attend concurrent sessions on Tuesday.

Podcasts can deliver educational content for listening or viewing on your computer, freeing learning from constraints of the physical classroom. Possibilities with Pixie 2

Learn about the variety of educational possibilities using Pixie 2, a drawing and painting software program designed for students in grades K-5. We will explore sample activities and templates already created as well as how students can create original work that demonstrates comprehension of classroom topics through painting, matching, writing, storytelling, narration, and more. Participants will also learn how to easily modify tasks to meet individual student needs and promote greater independence among primary students.

From Capture to Release: Podcast Setup and Posting

In this session you will learn about Podcasting. We will use Garageband to help engage students on content matter or a topic that is applicable to you. Not a classroom teacher? No problem! We will show you how to create a podcast to help keep your staff up-to-date and in-the-know. During this session, we will discuss what podcasting is; how you will be able to use and/or incorporate this in your classroom or professional development, and how this will benefit you and your students. We will model and demonstrate the ease of use, discuss its accessibility and provide you with further activity extensions. To fully participate in the session please make sure that your laptop is charged, and bring a microphone (built-in or external) and headphones/earbuds. *Please note - most of the HCPSS-provided Mac laptops (ibooks/macbooks) have a built-in microphone.

Google Earth Lit Trips

- Bring a book that you feel would be a good match for a Lit Trip. Identify locations within the book for a literature journey.
Google Lit Trips empowers students and teachers to journey along with a literary character throughout a story. Google Earth offers many tools to enhance the voyage along the way. Visual learners can visit Boston via Robert McCloskey's Make Way for Ducklings, or share the experience of the Great Depression through the eyes of the Joad family in Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath. These are just a few of the many examples demonstrated during this session. Come share the digital literary world as we travel with Digital Lit Trips!

iMovie 06

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then this workshop is for you! This iMovie06 session will focus on iMovie from the beginning. Clickers for Kids! How to Engage all Students in Your Classroom using an Interwrite Personal Response System

"Flip" Across the Curriculum

- Prerequisites: Bring Ultra Flip camera for optimal hands-on experience
Use the Ultra Flip camera across the curriculum in order to engage and motivate learners. Flip camera videos and other products provide authentic learning opportunities and support student access in all subjects. The Flip camera serves as a dynamic teaching tool for all levels of students, but can be particularly powerful for ELL and students in special education because this technology supports all domains of oral language acquisition: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Examples for using the Flip camera in all subjects will be shared. Participants will add additional examples and receive a completed list of Flip camera uses across the curriculum. Participants will leave with ideas, examples, and tools for saving their videos.

How can an administrator be a technology leader in a meaningful way? Teachers don't buy it if you simply talk the talk. Model technology for your staff, learn along with them, and create opportunities for developing authentic uses of technology. Take time to learn some simple technologies that will help you get your own job done while leading by example for your staff. You will leave with additional technology expertise and new knowledge of the way students engage with technology. Finally, you will walk away with effective high-tech strategies that you can use to lead your staff and prepare them for working in the 21st century.

The Mobi System is the industry's first multi-user, multi-tablet system designed specifically to facilitate student-centered, collaborative learning where teachers and students can interact with and contribute to digital content from anywhere in the room. The Mobi Teacher Pad has a built-in, color LCD screen that gives teachers immediate feedback on student performance when used in conjenction with an eInstruction student response system.
Grant recipients receive: 1 Mobi Teacher Pad; Mobi Master Certification and classroom Champion Status through eInstruction; ongoing professional development on the instructional uses of the Interwrite Mobi Learning System
The first 40 applications will be considered.
Note: The Mobi Teacher Pad is the property of the Office of Instructional Technology and may remain with the teacher to whom it is assigned via the grant until he/she leaves the Howard County Public School System. If the participant does not comply with the agreement requirements, OIT reserves the right to recall the equipment.
Grant recipient responsibilities:
- Conduct at least one 2-hour after-school workshop in October to share with school colleagues best practices in the instructional use of the Interwrite Mobi Learning System.
- Provide professional development for other HCPSS staff members (dates TBD, workshop wages will not be provided).
- Participate in eInstruction's Classroom Champion program.
- Participate in digital discussions, blogs, and Elluminate sessions throughout the school year
- Share lessons and/or professional development ideas
- Collaborate with other Mobi Masters at the same school level (elementary, middle, high)

The goal of the Digital Citizenship Module is to prepare you, as an educator, to become proficient with Standard III of the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards referencing Legal, Social, and Ethical Issues. This standard requires that teachers can demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use.
Participants in this strand will be part of a class that blends online learning with face to face meetings. Participants will meet together on Monday, July 19th from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. and once more on a yet to be determined October date. They will be expected to complete a 7 1/2 hour online class offerred through MPT. In addition, participants will share the information of digital citizenship with the staff at their schools sometime between August and October.
