Band-Marching/Symphonic

This class meets daily and offers a full credit. Study includes performance stressing many styles from Renaissance to avant-garde. With primary emphasis on performance, the band participates in parades and concerts and performs at some athletic events. Emphasis is placed on the yearly local and state adjudication. After school activities and practices are an integral part of the course, and grades may reflect such participation. Attendance is considered part of the course requirement. The number of required non-school performances and practices during a school year may not exceed forty.

Concert Choir

This group is open to any student interested in group singing. Students will have the opportunity to sing a variety of choral music. Programs throughout the year include assemblies, holiday programs, spring concert, graduation, and community programs. This group offers four-part singing primarily for students interested in part singing, duets, trios, quartets, and solos. Attention is given to the development of vocal and ensemble techniques. It is recommended that madrigal students also belong to the concert choir. Audition is required. Music and Society

This course is designed for students who wish to satisfy the Fine Arts requirement in a nonperformance based offering. Both contemporary and classical music will be studied in order to help students see more clearly the relationships between music and their society. This course is also designed to help students make appropriate connections with the art, dance, and drama of various styles and periods. Films and listing will be an integral part of this course.
