Tutoring Practicum

Student participants will gain skills in tutoring, locating career information, and use of reference and audiovisual materials. Additionally, they will gain skills in working with other students. The content of the course will be taught through the use of filmstrip presentations, observations of counselors tutoring students, demonstrations, and independent research projects designed to create familiarity with available information.
After a month of intensive training, students will begin to use their tutoring skills in areas of: a) teaching study skills b) working with students on specific subjects c) assisting students in locating college, career, financial aid information, and d) assisting students in the use of reference and audio visual materials. Only one elective credit may only be awarded after the 20th required graduation credit has been recorded.
