History of Art - Advanced Placement G/T
Grades 11, 12
Course # 690M
1 credit
Prerequisite: Grade B or better in Art I
The Advanced Placement offering in the History of Art is designed
to provide the same benefits to high school students as those provided
by an introductory college course in art history: an understanding
and enjoyment of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other art forms
within historical and cultural contexts. In the course, students examine
major forms of artistic expression from the past as well as the present
and from a variety of cultures. Participants learn to look at works of
art critically, with intelligence and sensitivity, and to articulate what
they see or experience. While the course does not seek to identify students
who will major in art history in college, it does require a high degree
of commitment to academic work and to the purposes of a program designed
to meet college standards. Upon completion, students may take the Advanced
Placement examination. Students who achieve these goals may receive advanced
placement and/or credit at many colleges and universities.
New Forms in Art
Grades 11, 12
Course # 6005
1 credit
Prerequisite: Grade B or better in Art II
Students will research the work of contemporary artists employing
studio processes such as collaboration, digital technology, installation,
inter-arts, mixed-media, performance and site specific works. The search

community, both local and global.

Grades 10, 11, 12
Course # 6006

In this course, students apply the language of art in producing fine art photographs. Capabilities are developed in the darkroom, processing film (developing, enlarging, and printing), and presenting their wok. Technical skills evolve through the use of early photographic apparatus, pinhole photography, and contact printing. Primary experiences will be with a fixed focus camera. Further skills employed will concentrate upon the use of a 35mm single lens reflex camera, exposure control, darkroom techniques, and print manipulation.
Photography II: Personal and Unique Approaches
Grades 11, 12
Course # 691M
1 credit
Prerequisite: Grade B or better in Photography I
In this course, students will experiment with alternative approaches and materials to compose unique photograph. Work produced will show a personal idea in a theme or series intended for specific and general audiences. Participants determine the differences between fine art photos and simple pictures by analyzing the work of famous artist/photographers. Students will collaborate with peers and instructor(s), and respond to photographic and related experiences to develop a personal aesthetic viewpoint. In-class and independent problems further the development of skills and techniques.
