Why Join LKMS PTA?

The strength of any local PTA lies with the number of members it registers. Parent involvement is first based in getting our parents registered as PTA members and building upon that membership.

Our annual PTA budget, the volunteer support for the school, its influence in the community and with the HCPSS Dept. of Education and Board of Education, and the educational welfare of the children all build upon the strength of the LKMS PTA.

Membership envelopes were sent home in the 1^st Day of School folders. If you did not receive one, just send in $7 payable to LKMS PTA, in an envelope labeled with your student’s name, grade, & homeroom. Include your name as well. Your membership card will be delivered to your child.

PTA Programs & Activities 2007 - 2008

PTA has budgeted about $38,000 to fund the following school school-wide programs.

Cultural Arts:

Ways & Means to meet our Programs

To be able to provide such wonderful programs, we must raise our own funds, solicit for grants, and depend on the generosity of our families and the business community. Listed below are the ways in which we plan to generate funds.

Active Fund Raising:

· Direct Donations in lieu of product fundraisers. We can appreciate that not all people like to purchase the products we sell. If you choose not to participate in our product fundraising, we would greatly appreciate you making a tax-deductible contribution directly to LKMS PTA. Consider this the “Fundraiser to end all Fundraisers!”

· Magazine Drive – campaign runs during September with lots of student and homeroom incentives. This fundraiser serves as our largest fundraiser of the year.

· Gotta Eat Nights -- You “Gotta Eat”, so why not consider a take home meal from Red, Hot & Blue or 3 Brothers? LKMS will get 15% of the day’s sales. Our goal is to raise $2,000 - Dates TBA – Check out our fund raiser link in the PTA section of the website.

· Golf Tournament – Our adult Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, April 26 at Hampshire Greens Golf Course Think about your foursomes now!

· Student and/or Family Nights – We’re planning an Adult Social Event this year! A chairperson is needed but we have a committee! There is a Student only pottery night planned for Friday, November 17. Purchase forms are available online under the PTA forms link. The first Family night is scheduled for Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel.

Passive Fundraising:

You don’t have to buy anything additional and you’d be surprised at how quickly these add up! If you are already using these products or shopping at these stores, please take the little bit of time to help us earn equipment and cash!

• Box Tops for Education – we get $0.10 for each box top. You’ll find the box tops on General Mills cereal and Betty Crocker items such as Fruit Roll Ups. Collection box is located in the school foyer. A volunteer is needed to see this program through!

· Giant & Safeway Receipts – (Sep. - Mar) just designate LKMS on your Bonus or Club Card and we will automatically receive cash (from Giant) or eScrip (Safeway) You must enroll each year, so do it now by visiting www.giantfood.com and www.escrip.com

• Printer cartridge recycling – bring in your empty printer toner cartridge to school. Ms. Hill collects them and receives money for the Vocal Music Department.
• Cell phone collection

Philanthropic Fundraising :

It is always best to lead by example and LKMS is committed to helping the greater community in need. PTA supports the following service-related fundraising performed by our students to help those in greater need

· Coat and Sweater Collection – Used and new coast for our Howard County families

• Harvest for the Hungry – canned food drive to help Howard County families (October 23 – November 10, 2006)
• Quarter Day (Friday, November 10, 2006) – Each student is asked to bring a quarter to school. The collected funds will be used to purchase Thanksgiving Dinner baskets for six families in our school.
• American Heart Association – Hoops for Heart basketball fundraiser
