Dear Friends and Families of Lime Kiln Middle School,
Good luck to Luke Roarty who will be competing in the BMX Bike Championships in China this next week. What an amazing opportunity and achievement! He was recently interviewed on WJZ-Channel 13.
We would also like to congratulate Bryana Nguyen who was in the Howard County Living magazine as the Athlete of the Month for golf and Martial Arts. She is ranked 2nd in the state for golf, ages 12-14.
Several of our teachers were recognized recently. Christine Barrett and Kim Sampson were nominated by LKMS families for their dedication to our special education students.
We commend the Special Education Community Advisory Committee to their dedication to recognizing Howard CountyÕs dedicated teachers.
On Tuesday, the Maryland State Department of Education held a luncheon and recognition ceremony to commend outstanding programs. Mrs. Lublin and Mrs. Dupski represented LKMS for being the top collector in terms of food in Howard County and sixth in the state of Maryland out of 514 participating schools. Mr. Keddell and two of our students, Logan Kirby and Alexis Landau, were awarded one of the Students Improving Maryland Awards. This financial award will help fund the Legacy Learning Trail in the back of the school.
Thanks to all of you who came out for the Fine Arts Festival last night. Kudos to Ms. Shin, Ms. Hill, and Mr. Jackowski for their hard work. What a wonderful showcase for our very talented students!
The guidance department organized and implemented the incoming 6th gradersÕ orientation on Thursday. The children were very excited to be here and we look forward to welcoming them to the LKMS community.
Congratulations to our Band and Orchestra for the outstanding concert on Reservoir High School. We are also very proud of the superior ratings they received at the competition at Hershey Park last Friday. The Chorus also participated in the competition and did well.
The Algebra students will be taking their High School Assessments on Thursday. Please make sure the students get a good nightÕs sleep, have breakfast and arrive to school on time.
Sincerely,
Brenda Thomas
Harvest for the Hungry- On May 13, Mrs. Lublin, Mr. Keddell, Logan Kirby, Alexandra Landau, and myself attended the recognition ceremony for the Harvest for the Hungry ÒKids Helping KidsÓ food campaign. Lime Kiln was recognized for being the top collector in terms of pounds of food in Howard County and sixth in the state of Maryland out of 514 participating schools. Due to these results Mr. Keddell was able to apply for a grant and was awarded one of the Students Improving Maryland Awards in the sum of $1000.00. This money will be used to help fund the Legacy Learning Trail in the back of the school. The founder of the Harvest for the Hungry food drive is Larry Adams a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley and the grant was funded by Morgan Stanley. It was your generosity and support during the Harvest for the Hungry food drive in October that enabled the school to receive the grant money. Thank you for your continuous support of our school programs. You are the best! Cindy Dupski
Just a friendly reminder that ALL chaperones going on the Outdoor Education Trip to Camp Letts on 5/21,22,23 need to attend our parent chaperone meeting this Monday 5/19 at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Valuable information will be given out to ensure a wonderful trip for all. This is the meeting where you find out EXACTLY what you will do as a chaperone at Letts. See you Monday night.

From the PTA:
Staff Appreciation Week was a great success. Our theme for the week was the Beijing Olympics. Each morning the staff, and students, had fun trying to win the Olympic Trivia Contest. Congratulation to the winners and thank you to all the students who ran fast to turn in their teacherÕs answer.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday found TEAM TREATS in the staff mailboxes. Thank you to all who helped package, and organize the treats. Tuesday we served BREAKFAST FOR OUR CHAMPIONS to the teachers and staff before the students arrived. Thank you to everyone who contributed food, drinks, or time to the effort. It is greatly appreciated. THURSDAY we celebrated BEIJING 2008 with a Chinese Buffet luncheon for all. Thank you to everyone who contributed food, drinks, or time to the effort. The food was delicious! The teachers requested recipes, so if it is not a family secret, send them in if you can.
Every afternoon we announce the Gift Card Drawing winners. Thank you to all the generous families who contributed gift cards or made monetary donations. By the end of the week all 84 teachers and staff were able to pick a gift card due to your generosity.
