Dear Friends and Families of Lime Kiln Middle School,

Today, eighteen of our eighth graders competed in the annual Howard County Science Fair at Mar riots Ridge High School.  We wish them good luck and look forward to hearing the results.

The LKMS History Day was held on Tuesday.  Many of the research projects were
judged for this worthwhile event.  I would also like to thank Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Spillman for the tremendous amount of support they have given to our students.

The following students placed in the Maryland State Wrestling Championships

4th place:                     Mason Kilcarr
3rd place:                     Logan Kirby
State champion:           Corey Daniel

Congratulations!  Great job!

This week, as we continue through the 25 Rules of Civility from the book, Choosing Civility by P. M. Forni, we focus on Rule 19:  Care for your guests.  Below are highlights from that chapter.

Sincerely,
Brenda Thomas

THE RULES OF CIVILITY

Rule 19:  Care for Your Guests

What good fortune as a child to be the frequent guest of good people for whom having friends in the house was as natural as breathing.  Not once was the mom other than motherly & kind to me.  They gave me a sense of belonging .I know now that was an injection of self-esteem I badly needed.

There is truth in Anthelme Brillat-SavarinÕs remark that Òto entertain a guest is to make yourself responsible for his happiness.Ó  Refrain from asking if anybody would like anything to eat.  Just put the food out & offer it.

DonÕt show a guest who is a physician your skin rash.  If you need to tap their expertise, call them the next day at the office.  Your dinner guests arre under no obligation to help you in the kitchen.  If they offer & you are comfortable with it, accept with a simple thank-you.

The essential goal of playing host is to strengthen your mutual bonds.
You only need to listen & talk from the heart.

Parent Social Event:

Invitations for the Parent Social Event which will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 from 7:30-11:30pm at The Gathering Place in River Hill went home on Friday in a large manilla envelope in your child's backpack.  Please ask your child to check their backpack to pass this important information on to you. This night is sure to be a night to remember for parents, teachers and staff of both Lime Kiln Middle School and Fulton Elementary. There will be a great dinner, live classic rock music by a well known local band, Mispent Youth, and auction items to benefit the educational enrichment for our children. Please gather old friends, new friends and rock on over to the The Gathering Place on March 28th!!  Any questions, please contact Diane Thometz, 301-854-9730, dithometz@aol.com or Leanne Glueck, 301-604-7150, lglueck@earthlink.net
