Dear Friends and Families of Lime Kiln Middle School,
Today is the Grand Opening of the Fair Housing Month Poster Showcase at the Columbia Mall. We are proud to announce that four of our students have been selected to be featured. Congratulations to Michael Hagen, Emily Kim, Erin Smedley and Gabriele Santos! The purpose of the exhibit is to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Fair Housing Act by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The posters will be on display through April 27th.
Daniel GeldofÕs article on Aqua Havens was published in this monthÕs edition of The Journal of the American Cichlid Association. Several of our students are featured including an exquisite piece of artwork by Michelle Seu. Daniel writes about the breeding programs started at LKMS for species at risk as well as the many mentors he has worked with while researching these species. Thank you, Daniel, for putting LKMS on the map! Our thanks to Mr. Keddell and Mr. Shifflett for providing this exceptional opportunity for our students.
This week we are experiencing an increase of boys horsing around in the hallways and at recess. Unfortunately, one student was injured as a result. These incidents are not malicious but injuries can occur, nevertheless. It is our contention that students need to keep their hands to themselves, thus preventing injuries and reducing the potential for angry altercations.
Congratulations to our Silver and Gold Honor Roll students! They will be honored by the PTA next week. Thanks to Barb Slayton for organizing the PTA incentives this school year!
Gotta Eat is here again! Join us at Red, Hot & Blue next Wednesday from 5-9 p.m.
Hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Brenda Thomas
Our students of the week are: Sylviane Alexion, Christopher Yi, Daniel Han, Abby Goron, Cameron Gribben, Sam Kane, Lily Hermina and Jack Monk.
Fencing Tournament ÉA big THANK YOU to the following students who represented LKMS in a middle school fencing tournament over the weekend. Devin Mayhew, Sean Spain, Ben Owens and Noah Owens competed against fencers from FIVE other Howard County middle schools at the Baltimore Fencing club in Columbia. A good time was had by all!.
