Dear Friends and Families of Lime Kiln Middle School,

Lime KilnÕs Back to School Night will be held Thursday at 7 p.m.  The PTA will hold its annual meeting first and then parents will follow their studentÕs schedule.  LKMS will also be selling organic cotton grocery bags in honor of our Green School status and to support the Youth Development programming.  Bags will be $10 each.

Additionally, the Lime Kiln table will have brochures that outline the GT resource programs, the intramural programs and also the Youth Development after school programs.  TeacherEase procedures and guidelines will also be available.

Please support the annual PTA magazine fundraiser!  A special thank you to all the parents who come in on collection and prize days!  We are also having several homeroom competitionsÑthe Ice Cream Party race is on!  This week, leading the race for the ice cream parties are Mrs. Rickard (6th), Mr. Shifflett (7th grade) and Ms. Johnson (8th grade).  The Big Snake has now moved to Mrs. RickardÕs room!  Keep up the good work!!!

Because our enrollment is growing, Back to School Night will be more crowded this year.  In order to address the parking issues, we would like to encourage parents to carpool.  Thanks for your understanding.

                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                        Brenda Thomas

Our students of the week are:  Allison Beatty, Grant Berger, Joe Bentz, Glen Kasoff,  Kendall Tayman, Brendan Sheehy, Karen Liu and Brian Glueck.

LIME KILN COMMUNITY DRUM CIRCLE  9/23/08....Next week is the fourth Tuesday of the month and we all know what that means.  It is time to make great music together again!  We had a fantastic time last month and I am really looking forward to playing with everyone
again.  We meet in the music room from about 7pm until about 8:30pm.   Everyone is welcome, no experience is necessary.  Instruments are provided. If you don't want to drum we have lots of other small percussion instruments to explore.  So come celebrate fall with us!                                                          Nellie Hill, Vocal Music Teacher

Lime Kiln's Youth Development Center offers numerous after-school programs and it would like to start a chess club.  Would there be a person in our community who knows how to play chess, and would be willing to head-up this after-school program?  The after-school programs run from 3:10 until 4:45, once per week.  It is suggested that this club be offered on a Monday.   If this is something that you are able to do, please contact Bob Keddell at the school.  Thank you.

Direct Donations Ð ThereÕs still time!!! - Direct Donation Letters and Envelopes came home the first day of school and can be sent in with your child to their homeroom teacher. The PTA provides many valuable services for you and your children at Lime Kiln Middle School.  To be able to provide these services, the PTA raises money throughout the school year with several different fundraisers.  One alternative the PTA offers those families who do not wish to participate in fundraisers or do not have the time to sell is direct donation. The PTA estimates that it spends $60.00 a year for each child on items such as helping to purchase TeacherEase, the grading program so many parents and students rely on, as well as over $10,000 worth of PTA cultural arts events such as drug and smoking awareness.  Your donation is completely tax deductible and you will receive a receipt acknowledging your gift.  Donations of any size are welcome, and every dollar will be used to support our students and teachers. If you have any questions, please contact Leanne Glueck, lglueck@earthlink.net, 301-604-7150
