Dear Friends and Families of Lime Kiln Middle School,

Please join us for American Education Week, November 17th-21st.  Parents are welcome to visit classrooms.  The Coffee with Administrators will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.  The main topic will be service learning at Lime Kiln.  Mr. Keddell will lead this discussion.

Mix It Up Day was a great success for our sixth grade students.  This day, celebrated nationally, gives the students the opportunity to sit at lunch with other students and to participate in fun activities.  Thanks to Mrs. Lucas and Mrs. Meomartino for planning this outstanding event.

Report cards went home yesterday.  Please call the guidance office if you did not receive one.  Congratulations to our Gold and Silver Honor Roll students!!

Please try to keep your student in school for the full day.  We have had multiple early dismissals recently.  Unfortunately, this can be very disruptive to the classrooms and the academic program.  Try to keep the early dismissals for emergencies only.

We look forward to seeing you for American Education Week and at parent-teacher conferences the following week.

Sincerely,
Brenda Thomas

Our students of the week are: Brian Do, Camille Bulte, Ashley Jaiswal, Brian Rodriguez, Tess Janson, Anjali Mahadevia, Matt Bradford, Lauren Norwicz.

HELP NEEDEDÉMrs. Jordan is in need of parent volunteer coaches to assist with the Science Olympiad team at LKMS.  This team consists of 15 motivated students in all three grades that will be independently studying a variety of science related topics in order to compete in local and state competitions.  There are 23 events focusing on all areas of science including but not limited to anatomy, meteorology, astrology, soil chemistry, aerodynamics, robotics, wind power, amphibians and reptiles, map reading, and engineering.    The national website to see all the events scheduled for the middle school division (division B) is http://soinc.org/

In capacity of an assistant coach, parents would work with a small group of students (2-3) on a topic that they are familiar with to help students understand and achieve the goals presented in the event.  Time would vary depending on the type of event and parent schedules. The first competition may be in February with the state competition occurring in late March or early April.  Parent volunteers would not need to attend the competitions.  Mrs. Jordan meets with students each Wednesday after school but parents can work with students whenever they can fit it in.  Please check out the website and see if you might have an area of expertise that these students could benefit from!  Contact Mrs. Jordan at ella_jordan@hcpss.org if you can help in any way no matter how small!  The science Olympiad team could also use some help in the way of sponsorship for various materials needed to construct various devices and for team t-shirts.
