Dr. Seuss,
or Theodore Seuss Geisel, was born and raised in New England.
Writing children's books was not his lifelong goal: before
becoming a famous children's author, Dr. Seuss joined the Army,
wrote documentaries, and created Academy Award winning cartoons.
A favorite author among both children and adults, Dr. Seuss died
September 24, 1991. Dr. Seuss wrote over 40 children's books,
