Meaning of Division – Part 1

Materials:

Chart paper

LCD projector or TV hookup

Mobile lab or computer lab

Meaning of Division.kid

 

HCPSS Objectives:      

á      Practice responsible and appropriate use of technology systems, software, and information  

 

Procedure:

  1. Have students log onto a computer and then meet you up front.
  2. Project the link and play several rounds of the game

  1. Have students discuss what they notice is happening to the

    sheep (dividing them into equal groups)

  1. On chart paper model how we can write number sentences to describe the problem

(e.g., 2 - by 2 = 4).

  1. Repeat this several times and have students T-P-S number sentences for other problems you present in the game and record their answers on the chart paper.

6.    Discuss concept of division as sharing equally.

7.    Display Meaning of Division.kid activity on the projector.  (Depending upon the technology skills of your students, you may need to model the steps needed to access the file)

8.    Go over the directions with the students and check their understanding of what to do.

9.    Have students go back to their computers and begin their work. 

10.      Circulate and monitor their progress. 

11.       Check that they have typed their names on their document. 

12.    Early finishers may click on the link for multiplication review. 

  1. Have students save their work onto their desktop and drag it to your hand-in folder on the server or print their document.  (Model this for them using the projector)
