Played right field for the Pittsburgh Pirates á
He is considered one of the greatest baseball players in history
because he won four National League batting titles and had a lifetime batting
average of .371. á
He helped lead the Pittsburgh Pirates their 160 and 1971 World
Series victories; He was named the MVP of the 1971 World Series. á
On September 30, 1972, Clemente became just the the eleventh
baseball player in major league history to earn 3,000 hits.

Special Distinctions: á
Clemente was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in
1973. An exception was made to
the Baseball Hall of Fame rules; they didnÕt observe the traditional waiting
period of five years after a player had retired to induct him. |
