Welcome back to the 2007-2008 School Year. The beginning of this school year has been absolutely sensational. We have so much to celebrate at Glenelg High School—the school’s 50th Anniversary, our #1 ranking in Howard County on the High School Assessments for the graduating class of 2009, the renovations to the cafeteria and interior of the school that occurred this summer, the addition that is now fully enclosed, the finest staff members in the county, our academically & extra-curricularly focused students, and the tremendous support of our PTSA and parents. This is the reason I welcomed the new students & the Class of 2011 at the New Student Orientation to the best high school in the Howard County. I am very proud of our students! Their academic, athletic, musical, and extra-curricular successes last year were spell-bounding. To celebrate our students’ successes and GHS’s 50th Anniversary, every student was given a tee-shirt that reads, “Glenelg High School, est (established) 1957.
Entering my fourth year as Principal of Glenelg High School, I am very excited to begin the new school year. As we embark on our school-improvement journey to maximize the potential of every student at Glenelg, it is important to reflect on our past performance data. I am pleased to announce that the Class of 2009, the first-graduating class mandated by the Maryland State Department of Education to pass the High School Assessment Tests, ranked #1 in Howard County for the percentage of students passing the four Assessment tests in Algebra/Data Analysis, Biology, American Government, and English 10. Our students scored a 91.3% pass rate in Algebra/Data Analysis; a 92% in Biology, a 92.4% in English 10; and a 92.4% in American Government. Hats Off to the Class of 2009! Additionally, the Advanced Placement Test results show increases in the number of students taking the tests, as well as the percent of students scoring a “3” (considered passing) or better. SAT scores, as well, showed a slight gain last year. The School Improvement Team will continue to identify and implement strategies to maintain our level of successes and decrease the performance gaps of our various student groups.
Glenelg’s initiative for the 07’-08’’ school year is “Building Positive Relationships” among and between students, teachers, staff members, parents, business partners, and the community. As I mentioned to the staff the week they returned, building positive relationships begins with everyone’s being Positive, Productive & Patient and using four simple FISH practices: –Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude™, which you will hear more about in the following months. The FISH philosophy reminds us that building success is possible as long as we navigate our course with a strong, positive “Can Do” attitude. Parents, please STAY INVOLVED at Glenelg and remind your children to GET INVOLVED!

I completed my undergraduate work at Morgan State University after transferring from Hampton University . I also enjoy studying, and as a result, I hold two masters degrees from Johns Hopkins University . My ultimate goal is to become a full-time graduate student in a degree granting university with a concentration in pastoral counseling.
On a more personal note, I am married and the mother of three (two daughters and a son) and grandmother of seven. Gardening, cooking various special dishes, decorating, reading, and raising money for scholarships are among my most favorite things to do.
While I have had many varied experiences including five schools and thirteen years in two Central Offices, each assignment has been different with diverse communities, multiple needs and challenges, and even greater opportunities for success. Glenelg enjoys an enviable reputation in Howard County as well as around the state, and I hope to continue to contribute positively to its well-deserved place in the sun. It is my belief that when one examines an effective school, the cooperative efforts of parents, educators, and the community are the determining factors in making a good school a great school. Glenelg's staff, parents, and the support of a committed community will continue to make the difference needed to assure a bright future for all of our students.
My focus while serving on the administrative team at Glenelg High is Goal II (Safe Schools). My duties include, but are not limited to, the safe driving program, construction, the renovations, facilities, security, and discipline for the students whose last names begin with O through Z. I am the liaison for business, CRD, English, Special Education, and several other departments.
The past three years have been an enlightening and productive experience as I served as an assistant principal at Glenelg High School . I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Glenelg faculty and staff for their dedication and hard work as we seek to make Glenelg the best it can be.
Although there were some very busy days and some tough decisions, I have enjoyed this assignment so much that I have delayed retirement. I am pleased to be a colleague of some of Howard County 's finest. I am also proud of the accomplishments we have made in the are of creating an inclusive and diverse school community as well as the improved statistics at Glenelg. Please keep us informed of areas for improvement as we go from good to great.
