The library Media center at Guilford
ElementarySchool is dedicated to helping
our students enjoy literature and become
information literate for the 21st century.
Each class (grades K-5) visits the
Library Media Center once a week
for 45 minutes. During library/media
class, students participate in a variety
of instructional activities in which
they:
- Locate, retrieve, and handle
media and equipment;
- Select and evaluate media;
- Organize, manage, and comprehend
information;
- Use information effectively
and creatively;
- Demonstrate appreciation of
media as sources of information and
recreation.
In library/media class,
each student is graded on listening,
thinking, following media center rules/procedures,
and showing readiness to respond to
questions and activities. Class participation,
completion of assigned tasks, retention
of previous lessons, and the demonstration
of knowledge gained are an integral
part of the evaluation.
An automated
circulation system is used to checkout
books. Kindergarten, and first grade
students may checkout one book at a
time. Second through fifth grade students
may checkout two books at a time. Books
circulate for one week. However, students
may renew their book for a second week.
Students who do not return their books
will receive an overdue notice. Due
to the rising cost of books, should
your child lose or damage his/her book,
you will be asked to pay the full replacement
cost of the book.
You can help your child have a positive
experience with books by:
- Enjoying books with your
child;
- Helping your child find
a good place to read;
- Letting your
child see you read for enjoyment;
- Helping
your child find a safe place for
library media books
- Reminding your
child to return books.
If you should
have any questions concerning the
Library Media Center, please feel
free to call the school and ask for
Mrs. Tarash or Mrs. Baker.
