GT Testing
Current 6th and 7th graders may be nominated for GT testing in the spring of 2008. The nomination period will be from December 10 – January 2. Students may be nominated by parents, teachers, and administrators. Parents who want to nominate their children for testing should email Mr. McCauley at Bill_McCauley@hcpss.org. Parents of students who are nominated by teachers or administrators will be contacted by Mr. McCauley. Please note that all students who are in GT classes now are eligible to continue in GT classes in those subjects without retesting. This testing is only for students to enter GT classes in new subjects for the following year. Testing will take place in February. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. McCauley at the above email address or at 410 313-1506.
CTY
The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) 2007 packets from John Hopkins
University have arrived at Folly Quarter Middle School. Each packet is grade
specific: A PLUS test opportunity for sixth grade and a SAT or ACT test opportunity
for seventh and eighth grades. The packets may be picked up by parent or child
in the media center at the GT Resource/AV room or from the Guidance office.
The CTY is a commercial product from Johns Hopkins University which gives
middle school students an opportunity to experience aptitude tests (PLUS or
SAT/ACT); to have JHU place the applicant’s family name on a mailing
list for materials, information, and upcoming events; to possibly qualify
for summer programs; and to meet other students from Maryland schools.
Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students with a rating of “Advanced”
on one of the sections of the Maryland State Assessment (MSA) are eligible
to participate in the CTY Talent Search 2007. You should have received a copy
of your child’s MSA scores from last year. If you are unable to locate
a copy of your child’s MSA scores, please send a signed request to Mrs.
Anacker-Maas in the FQMS guidance office for release of the scores.
Please note that FQMS’s code number is 2104277. You will need this number
to fill out the application forms. Also, you can find information and register
your child online at www.cty.jhu.edu.
Deadlines for application and other important dates are in the brochures here
at the school and online. If you are interested in more information, please
visit the website above and/or pick up a brochure from Mr. McCauley in the
GT office or from Mrs. Anacker-Maas in the Guidance office.
