In emergency situations, our first concern is the safety of our students.  There are two reasons for emergency school closing:
    •Weather conditions which affect all Howard County Public Schools
    •Local emergencies which may affect only Cradlerock School
In situations where the students are dismissed from school early, we need parents to supply specific dismissal information.

All parents must inform the school on the Emergency School Closing Form what each student is to do when an early dismissal occurs.  It is not possible to call parents from the school office, especially since the school phone lines will be used for emergency communication with the Department of Education, the Fire Department, etc.  We must have sufficient information from you, with alternatives for your child’s safety.  We urge you to inform your child of the location to which he/she is to go in an emergency, and also to discuss the matter with any person who will receive your child in such a time of emergency.

On the back of this note is the Early Dismissal Procedure Form.  Please read and carefully complete the Early Dismissal Procedure Form.  This should be returned to school as soon as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this matter.

A decision to send students home early after the school day has started is made by the Superintendent of Schools.  Notification of early dismissal due to emergency conditions is made over the local radio and television stations.  Please understand that individual telephone calls cannot be made by the school staff in the event of any emergency dismissal. The procedure listed below is the one that will be followed in the event of an emergency dismissal.
