ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL 2007/2008

ARRIVAL

• Students are not allowed in the building until the 7:55 am bell rings. Students remain on the bus until 7:55 am.
• Please do not drop your child off early or have them walk to school too early.  There will be no adult supervision outside until 7:50 am.
• Students eating breakfast may enter the building at 7:45 am.

Car Drop Off In The Morning

• We have 2 car drop off loops:

• Main Parking Lot – stay to the right of the parking lot in a single lane. Do not let your child out until you reach the sidewalk.
• Bus Loop – Cars will be allowed in the bus loop after ALL buses are gone.

• Do not get out of your car.
• Have your child sit on the passenger side so he/she does not exit into the street.
• Make sure your child has all of his/her belongings readily accessible in the back seat. Do not have items in the trunk.
• Take care of family business( lunch money, after school directions, pep talks, hugs and kisses, etc.) before arriving at the school.  We need to keep the line moving!
• Practice with your child how to independently get in and out of the car with his/her belongings.
• When leaving the parking lot, please make a right turn only out onto Cradlerock Way.  This will help expedite the cars leaving our parking lot.
• Be patient and respectful of other parents and staff.
• Be SAFE and use CAUTION!
• Traffic will be heavy. Expect delays. Allow sufficient time in the morning to arrive at school on time.

DISMISSAL

Students will be designated as bus rider, car pick-up, child care center bus, CA aftercare, walker,  parent pick-up, and sibling pick-up. We need you to be CONSISTENT with your child’s dismissal procedure.
ELEMENTARY GRADES – Please fill out the enclosed label and attach it to your child’s shirt on the 1st day of school. This will help us get your child to the right place at dismissal.

Bus Riders/Child Care Buses

• Elementary bus riders will be dismissed first and middle school bus riders will be second.
• Only yellow buses and child care center buses will be allowed in the bus loop.  We cannot accommodate the many home childcare providers in such a small space. Home childcare will be considered car pick-up.  Please explain this to your home childcare provider.

Car Pick-up

• Do not get out of your car. Students who are car pick ups will walk to the car.
• Please make a right turn only when exiting the bus loop or the main parking lot.
• Middle school students should be picked up in the main parking lot.
• Elementary students should be picked up in the bus loop. Cars may enter after ALL buses are gone.
• If you have a child in elementary and middle school, the middle school aged child should report to the elementary car pick up area.
• Be patient and respectful of other parents and staff.
• Be SAFE and use CAUTION!

Columbia Association Aftercare

• Students will report directly to the cafeteria for Columbia Association.

Walkers

•  This includes parents who choose to park their car and/or walk to pick up their child. Parking is available in the main lot, neighborhood center(pool), and library.  Parking in residential neighborhoods is at your own risk.
• Elementary walkers will be dismissed out to the elementary blacktop.
• Middle school walkers will be dismissed from the back doors past the guidance office and side door by the middle school gym to the back courtyard..

Sibling Pick-up

• If you have an older child (middle/high school) picking up your younger child, it is important that they are respectful and responsible. Profanity and horseplay will not be tolerated.  Last year, we had to ban individuals from school property  because they  behaved inappropriately when picking up a younger sibling. Please discuss appropriate behavior with your older child.
• Middle school students picking up a younger sibling are NOT to go down to the classroom areas. They should walk around to the elementary blacktop to meet their younger brother or sister.

Early Dismissal

• If you need to pick up your child early, please do so before 2:15 pm. After 2:15 pm, we ask that you wait for regular dismissal at 2:40 unless it is an emergency.

Late Pick-ups

• If you have an emergency and cannot pick up your child by 2:40, please call to let us know.  Please understand that the front office is not after school child care.  Last year we had several parents that were consistently late.
