CEDAR LANE SCHOOL
AQUATICS:
The therapy tank at Cedar Lane School provides our students with many opportunities. The pool is a warm 96 degrees. It is very relaxing and allows those tight muscles a chance to relax and stretch out. We use traditional swimming strokes to get our students to move all their limbs. For our students that are able to swim independently and those needing support, we work not only on their strokes but their endurance too. Each year we increase the distance they are expected to swim. We also support mobility goals on which the students may be working. The water provides an excellent opportunity to practice walking with less support than is needed on land. Students who are non-ambulatory also benefit greatly from the time in the water. The pool is the only place where no matter in what position they are in they experience no pressure points on their bodies. They are also able to experience a greater range of body positions, with less effort, than they would on dry land.
